What if I did this for a year?

To grab food and go is so easy, to guess how much you are eating is so easy too, when we grab and go the amount that we grab always looks the same to us.

I normally plan, weigh and track my food and it’s a system that I have used for a long time, don’t get me wrong I am not perfect and there are times when I don’t do it, times when I don’t track, times when I don’t weigh, these are the times that I tend to go off the rails.

So last Friday I was leaving to meet a client and on the way out I remember I didn’t have my Cashew Nuts so I grabbed the bag, took a handful and dropped them into another bag to take with me. They looked about the same amount that I always have 30g. As I went out the door I wondered how many grams there are, so I went back popped them on the scales and my 30g were actually 50g, OK 20gmore not a big issue or is it?

Let’s do the maths

The 20g extra is 116 calories, not a lot I hear you say, and calories are a unit of energy and Cashew nuts are a good source of food.

BUT WHAT IF I DID THIS EVERY DAY FOR A WEEK?

7 days x 116 calories = 812

so that would be 812 extra calories in a week

BUT WHAT IF I DID THIS EVERY DAY FOR A MONTH?

(WE SAY 30 DAYS)

30 days x 116 calories = 3480K

so 3480 calories is nearly 3500 calories

To gain a lb of weight (not going to be technical here re body fat or muscle) we need to consume 3500 more calories that what we need to function.

WHAT IF I DID THIS EVERY DAY FOR 1 YEAR?

365 days x 116 calories = 42,340

42,340 / 3500 = 12 lb

Yes 12 lb for not weighing and checking 1 food, my cashew nuts.

Now I don’t normally get very controversial but here we go…

YES I can hear you all saying but we don’t have time to weigh, well check out how long you are on social media, I bet it is longer than it would take you to weigh your food.

I was on a bit of a mission here so I thought lets flip this, how long, how far and how many steps would it take me to walk off 116 calories.

116 calories took me:

15 mins

0.92 miles

2086 steps

BUT WHAT IF I DID THAT EVERY DAY FOR A WEEK

7 days x 15 mins = 105 mins

7 days x .92 miles = 6.44 miles

7 days x 2086 steps = 14,602 steps

That what I would have to do extra every week

WHAT IF I DID THAT EVERY DAY FOR A MONTH?

(WE SAY 30 DAYS)

30 day x 15 mins = 450 mins

30 days x .92 miles = 27.6 miles

30 days x 2086 steps = 62,580 steps

WHAT IF I DID THIS EVERY DAY FOR 1 YEAR?

365 days x 15 mins = 5475 mins

365 days x .92 miles = 335.8 miles

365 days x 2086 steps = 761,390

So the big question is?

HAVE YOU GOT TIME TO WEIGH?
