What is that voice in your head saying, you can’t, don’t be silly, you will make a fool of yourself, who do you think you are? Really you think you can achieve that goal?
Well what if I told you yes you can, you won’t be silly or look silly, you won’t make a fool of yourself, and who do you think you are, well you are the person you want to be, the person who can achieve those goals, whose voices will be positive ones.
We all live with inner chatter.
For some it is negative, for others it is positive.
Do you ever look at friends, acquaintances, people that you work with and ask how they do that and what magic powers do they have that I don’t possess?
Self doubt and limiting belief in yourself will have a major impact on what you receive from your life, your health, your wellbeing, and stop you living the life that you want to live. Life can be hard and painful for many of us.
We find it difficult to push ourselves to participate in activities because we feel we will fail, we are embarrassed we can’t be the one who just glides in and takes part in everything and somehow in your eyes are good at everything.
I hear this all the time, “I wish I could get fitter”, “I wish I could lose a few pounds”, “I am not good enough” or “I want to look better” or “I am not happy in my own skin”
Many people will say to me I don’t have the time I wish I did, I can’t fit that in between the family and work, now I am not going to say these are excuses because I don’t believe they are, but I do believe these are a way we protect ourselves, protects us from getting hurt, hurt from other and yes from ourselves
Let me give you some examples of ladies that I have had the pleasure of working with over the last few years, ladies just like you and me, ladies who have wanted to change something about themselves but that inner voice has stopped them so many times, telling them they are not good enough. Maybe you will recognise some of them.
Eve who so wanted to lose weight for herself to feel better about herself who felt she was missing out on so much. She built up the courage to come to one of my fitness classes, she got to the car park sat in the car and that is as far as she got, sat there crying and hating herself because she couldn’t get out of the car and walk into the centre, in her head she could see all young fit supermodels, she didn’t see the real ladies getting out of their cars and coming into the centre, the lack of self belief in herself and her ability was so overwhelming. She then returned home. I would love to say this was the only time that this happened but it was not, this happened on many occasions.
Jo who works out with me on a weekly basis, yes the fitness side is good and she got goals she wants to achieve but also she needs to chat to someone who does not live in her life all the time, who she knows will not judge her for having her time out for herself, we will chat about anything and everything and the time will fly by, but this is Jo time, to re engage with herself, but also the time to re energise.
So why am I telling you this, well these ladies all needed support not only on their fitness Journey but on their health journey too, yes we worked on fitness but we also worked on their minds, giving them their confidence back, building up their self esteem, taking away the negative inner chatter and replacing it with positive inner chatter.
Changing the limiting beliefs we have in ourselves can and will have a positive effect on our whole being.
